ACI, Seoul Incheon Airport Ranks World No.3 for International Passengers in 2025
Seoul Incheon International Airport ranks as the world’s third busiest airport for international passengers in 2025, underscoring its growing role as a key global aviation hub amid a steady recovery in cross border travel demand.
According to Airports Council International World, international passenger traffic reached 4.0 billion in 2025, up 5.9 percent from a year earlier and 8.3 percent higher than pre pandemic 2019 levels.
The top 10 airports accounted for 17 percent of total international traffic, reflecting continued concentration in major hub airports. Dubai International Airport retained the top position, followed by London Heathrow Airport, while Incheon International Airport held firm in third place, highlighting its resilience and strategic importance in Northeast Asia.
The latest rankings come as global aviation demand continues to rebound, supported by easing inflation and lower fuel costs, while international routes especially across Asia Pacific are recovering at a faster pace. Industry observers note that Incheon’s strong performance reflects both the return of Chinese outbound travel and expanded connectivity across key long haul and regional routes.
In 2025, total global passenger traffic is estimated to have reached 9.8 billion, marking a 3.6 percent increase from 2024 and a 7.3 percent rise compared to 2019. The world’s 10 busiest airports accounted for 9 percent of total passenger traffic.
Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport remained the busiest airport globally with 106.3 million passengers, followed by Dubai International Airport with 95.2 million and Tokyo Haneda Airport with 91.7 million. Notably, Asia Pacific airports showed a strong rebound, reshaping global rankings. Shanghai Pudong International Airport recorded the largest jump within the top 10, climbing from 10th to 5th, driven by the recovery of international traffic, relaxed visa policies, and expanded air connectivity. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport also rebounded sharply to ninth place from 57th in 2022.
Four of the top 10 busiest airports are located in the United States, reflecting the continued strength of the US aviation market, particularly in domestic travel, which accounts for between 80 percent and 95 percent of passenger volumes at those airports.
Industry experts point out that while demand remains robust, structural constraints such as airport capacity limits, aircraft delivery delays, and airspace restrictions are emerging as key challenges. Against this backdrop, Incheon’s ability to maintain its top tier position in international traffic signals both operational competitiveness and its growing influence in the global aviation network.
