AMPAP Course Highlights Strategic Planning and Sustainability in Airport Development

The latest session of the Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme (AMPAP) has concluded, bringing renewed focus to the integration of business planning and sustainability in airport development.

Organised under the framework of Airports Council International and International Civil Aviation Organization, the Airport Business Planning and Sustainability (ABPS) course gathered airport professionals from across global markets. The programme aims to equip industry practitioners with the tools to navigate a rapidly evolving aviation landscape shaped by regulatory pressure, environmental targets, and shifting passenger expectations.

Delivered through a hybrid format combining virtual learning and self-study over four weeks, the course emphasized long-term strategic planning aligned with environmental, social, and economic priorities. Participants explored key areas including market forecasting, ESG reporting, infrastructure investment, and stakeholder engagement.

A central component of the curriculum focused on the ICAO sustainability framework and master planning principles. These frameworks are increasingly critical as airports face mounting demands to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining operational efficiency and commercial viability.

Industry observers note that sustainability is no longer a peripheral concern but a core element of airport competitiveness. The integration of digitalization and system innovation within planning processes reflects a broader shift toward data-driven, resilient infrastructure.

The programme also highlighted the importance of aligning airport strategies with broader aviation ecosystem stakeholders, including regulators, airlines, and investors. This coordinated approach is seen as essential to delivering scalable and future-ready airport models.

As global air traffic continues to recover and expand, structured training initiatives such as AMPAP are expected to play a key role in shaping next-generation airport leadership, balancing growth ambitions with sustainability imperatives.
