CJ CGV Upgrades Seoul’s K-Pop Live Screen to 12K Resolution
CJ CGV has upgraded its large Digital Out of Home screen, K-Pop Live, in Seoul’s Samseong-dong district, introducing a 12K ultra-high-resolution display designed to improve visual quality and strengthen the site’s role as a landmark media platform.
K-Pop Live is located in the Gangnam Eyes special advertising zone in Samseong-dong, one of Seoul’s major business and entertainment districts. CJ CGV said the renewed screen began operation in July.
First completed in 2018, K-Pop Live has served as a major digital advertising site on the exterior of the building. The original screen used an 8K-class display with about 9,000 nits of brightness. Its two connected exterior surfaces also made it suitable for anamorphic content, creating three-dimensional visual effects for viewers on the street.
The latest upgrade was carried out in cooperation with digital signage company Kinoton. The new screen supports 12K resolution and brightness of up to 12,000 nits, providing sharper images and stronger visibility even in daylight.
CJ CGV also said the new system reduces power use by about 9% compared with the previous screen, improving its energy efficiency as well as its visual performance.
The company is also expanding the use of the screen beyond commercial advertising. New media art content is being shown regularly, including Night Fish, created in cooperation with digital art company d’strict, and Wind Chime. The media art programs are scheduled to run every evening at one-hour intervals from 6 p.m.
The renewal comes as competition grows among large Digital Out of Home sites in Seoul. New high-resolution screens are being developed across major advertising districts, pushing media owners to improve both technology and content quality.
A CJ CGV advertising business official said K-Pop Live is more than an advertising screen, describing it as a digital landmark and media art platform representing the city.
With higher resolution, greater brightness and new media art programming, K-Pop Live is expected to strengthen its position as one of Seoul’s leading large-format Digital Out of Home platforms.
