E-Ink Advertising Displays Gain Ground as Korea Explores a New Out of Home Screens

E-ink displays are moving closer to commercial use in advertising, as major display makers introduce new products that combine low power use, thin designs and high-quality images.

A wide range of e-ink advertising products was shown at K-Display 2026, held at COEX in Seoul from July 22 to 24. The products suggest that e-ink could become a new option for Digital Out of Home and indoor advertising, especially in places where screens need to operate for long periods with limited power use.

E-ink is a display technology developed by E Ink Holdings. Unlike normal video displays, it does not need continuous power to keep an image on the screen. Power is mainly used when the image changes. This makes the technology useful for signs, menus, posters and other displays where content does not need to move constantly.

Samsung Electronics’ Color E-Paper Signage, Unveiled Earlier This Year

Samsung Electronics presented its Samsung Color E-Paper, a digital advertising display designed to look similar to a printed poster. The screen can operate without a direct power cable for a period of time by using a battery, making installation more flexible.

The product also reflects efforts to improve the main weakness of earlier e-ink technology: color quality. Older e-ink displays were mainly known for simple black-and-white images, but newer products are offering brighter and wider color ranges.

LG Electronics’ LG E-Paper Display

LG Electronics also showed its 32-inch LG E-Paper Display. The QHD screen has a 16:9 format and is designed for locations such as stores, restaurants and other commercial spaces.

LG said the display is only 16.4mm thick and weighs 2.3kg, making it easy to install and move. A 72Wh battery and low-power system allow the product to operate for long periods without a permanent power connection. A magnetic mounting system can also be used on the back.

Other companies at the exhibition introduced e-ink solutions for different advertising and information needs. E Ink Holdings showed its Spectra 6 color technology, while several manufacturers presented products in different shapes and sizes for retail and commercial environments.

Transparent display technology was another major theme at K-Display 2026. Companies introduced transparent LED and OLED products that can be installed on windows and glass surfaces while allowing people to see through them.

EV Advanced Material presented its T-Mesh transparent LED display, which uses a very light structure without a traditional bezel. The company said the product can be used on curved glass and other surfaces and offers brightness of around 6,000 nits for strong daytime visibility.

These new technologies could expand the role of displays in Out of Home advertising. E-ink offers low power consumption and flexible installation, while transparent LED and OLED products allow advertising to become part of windows, stores and building surfaces without completely blocking the view.

As display technology becomes thinner, lighter and more energy efficient, the line between printed posters, digital signage and architectural media is becoming less clear. For the Out of Home industry, e-ink may not replace large LED screens, but it could create a new category of low-power digital advertising in retail, transit and other high-traffic spaces.
