SMLK Opens AI-Powered OOH Platform with 150,000+ South Korean OOH Assets and Six-Language Support

South Korean OOH technology company SMLK Co., Ltd. (SMLK) has launched the open beta of SMLKOMS, an AI- and big data-powered platform that brings more than 150,000 OOH media assets across the country into a single media planning and analysis system.

The launch marks a move toward more data-based OOH planning in South Korea, where media decisions have traditionally relied heavily on location, experience and individual media information. SMLKOMS is designed to add audience, consumer and traffic data to that process, helping advertisers and agencies compare media, identify suitable locations and estimate campaign performance before making buying decisions.

The platform, whose full name is SMLK OOH Media Suite, is an open subscription service designed for advertisers, agencies, media representatives and OOH media owners. It supports the full planning process, from media search and analysis to AI-powered recommendations, proposal creation and campaign reporting.

During the open beta, SMLKOMS provides analysis and recommendations for digital billboards, exterior bus advertising and bus shelters. Users can search more than 150,000 OOH media assets across South Korea without having to build their own data infrastructure or analytics systems.

The subscription model is designed to make data-based OOH planning available to companies of different sizes. Users can compare media options, review audience and cost estimates, and create materials to support campaign planning and buying decisions.

SMLK has signed official data service agreements with LG U+ (LG U+), one of South Korea’s major telecommunications companies, and NICEZINIDATA (NICEZINIDATA), a specialist data company.

SMLKOMS combines mobile-based foot traffic and population data with consumer spending and interest data supplied by the two companies. It also uses public traffic and population data from South Korean government bodies, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

The platform connects these datasets with information on individual OOH media assets. It then recommends media based on factors including target audience fit and estimated CPM efficiency.

Rather than simply providing a list of available media, SMLKOMS shows estimated audience exposure and explains why specific media have been recommended. The aim is to provide planners with clear data that can support media selection and campaign decisions.

Campaign reports include OTS, or Opportunity to See, as well as estimated Reach, Frequency, Impressions and CPM.

SMLK stresses that these figures are estimates rather than direct measurements of whether individual consumers actually saw an advertisement. The estimates are calculated using supplied datasets and information about how each media asset operates.

To make this distinction clear, estimated metrics are marked with “(e)” and are presented together with their data sources and calculation methods. This allows advertisers and agencies to understand how the figures were produced and use them as supporting information for campaign planning, media comparison and performance analysis.

SMLK has already applied SMLKOMS to real OOH campaigns for major advertisers and has worked with agencies and media owners to test how the data can be used in day-to-day OOH planning.

The company continues to improve its calculation methods, AI recommendations, proposal tools and reporting functions based on feedback from industry professionals.

The user interface follows the normal process of planning an OOH campaign. Users enter campaign objectives, target audiences, locations and media conditions step by step.

Based on the selected media and analysis results, AI can automatically write explanatory text for media proposals and reports. Completed documents can then be provided in PowerPoint and PDF formats.

The platform also supports six languages: Korean, English, Japanese, Italian, Simplified Chinese and French. This allows international advertisers and agencies to review South Korean OOH media information and analysis in their preferred language.

SMLK plans to focus first on improving its data methods and platform in South Korea.

South Korea offers a distinctive environment for data-based OOH development. The country has highly concentrated urban areas, large volumes of pedestrian and transport activity, and advanced telecommunications, consumer data and IT infrastructure. OOH media and advertisers are also heavily concentrated in major cities.

SMLK plans to use this environment to further test and improve its data methods and services. The company will then consider expansion into other countries step by step, depending on international demand and the availability and structure of local data in each market.

“What I have learned from more than 20 years in the OOH business is that the industry does not lack value. What it has lacked is a common data standard that can explain that value in numbers,” said Choi Jae-won, CEO of SMLK.

“SMLKOMS is not technology designed to replace people. It is a platform that connects the experience built in the field with data to support better decisions about what comes next,” he added.

SMLK is a South Korean OOH technology company that develops and operates SMLKOMS as a data- and AI-powered independent OOH decision-making platform. The company received an A grade in a technology business assessment by the Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KIBO). It is also certified as a venture company and operates a dedicated research and development unit. SMLK holds two registered patents and 12 registered copyrights and continues to develop its technology for data-driven OOH planning and analysis.
